I was born in Ankara-Türkiye in 1974. I graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of English Language and Literature in 1997 and from İstanbul University, Department of Spanish Language and Literature in 2018. I did my master’s degree in Educational Management and Supervision. I have studied at various language schools in England, Spain, and Argentina. In 2017, I went to Cambridge University and attended lectures on different periods of English literature. I have completed the editor, proofreader and lector programmes organised by the Turkish Publishers Association. I have been working at Marmara University School of Foreign Languages, where I have been teaching since 2001. I am also a translation editor who has worked on three Javier Cercas novels and the “Alexander the Great Trilogy” by Mary Renault. Alongside running the Kitap Kurtları Book Club, which I founded, I enjoy sharing interviews with writers from both Turkish and world literature, as well as essays I have written, on my blog and in publications such as Milliyet Sanat, Edebiyat Haber, Mikroscope, Litera Edebiyat, Onedio, and Satır Dergisi.
The information about my biography above is objective. I don’t know to what extent my subjective answers to the question “Who am I?” would be accurate and how many of my labels I can list here at a glance. Therefore, I would rather add the following and close the subject: I love reading, writing, researching, learning, questioning, travelling and despite some people, I still strive to remain “human”.
